Face the Facts: You’re Probably Single
So, what’s the reasoning? Are we slowly becoming skeptics? (Or is it just me?) The researchers didn’t elaborate, but we’d guess that it has to do with changing traditions and societal expectations—that is, many people no longer feel a need to get and/or stay married (or at least, not at an early age). But whatever the reason, those who conducted the study do know that these numbers have certain implications. “Singles, particularly younger ones, are more likely to rent than to own their dwellings,” economist Edward Yardeni told Bloomberg. “Never-married young singles are less likely to have children and previously married older ones, many of whom have adult children, are unlikely to have young kids. That will influence how much money they spend and what they buy.” It also skews our view of income inequality, as single people are only supporting themselves and thus don’t have the expenses of families.
Regardless, the next time you’re feeling #sosingle, revel in the thought that you’re far from alone. And, remember: This also means there are more available people than ever. Silver linings!
