The Surprising Truth About Female Passion, From a Man Paid to Be Desired

Having a thousand women go wild for you on a nightly basis will give you a rather interesting perspective on female sexuality. And Jordan Darrell is a man with that perspective — at 30, he’s a dancer and lead choreographer for male strip group Dreamboys. Think of them as the UK’s answer to Magic Mike, complete with policeman costumes, ridiculous muscle tone and crotch-thrusting performances that could probably take your eye out.

In a world where so much sexual gratification is aimed squarely at men — think everything from porn to art to advertising to orgasms — male strippers are still something of a kitsch novelty. We spoke to Jordan to find out what it’s like to cater to women’s desires for a living and to get his take on the supposed mystery around female sexuality.

Do you think that women are as sexual as men?
Women are about 200 times more sexual than men!

Why is there a perception that women are less sexual?
That persona of being a slag — for want of a better word — having a reputation or a bad name. It’s not really socially right to act like that, so it seems, but in the situation of having a good time they can actually let go and there are no airs or graces. They’ve actually got something for themselves, and they can actually go and release it. Which is awesome and a good thing, but I think sometimes guys need to help them release it so they don’t touch the Dreamboys so much!

What turns women on?
Definitely gentlemanly charm and sensual movements. I get a lot of comments on the dancing as a draw for the women, as opposed to the nudity.

What one move do you do that is guaranteed to drive women wild?
Any kind of thrust of the hips or movement with the hips drives women wild. My special move is a handstand above them and then slowly easing the body down to the ground – it’s always a winner.

What’s the craziest thing a woman’s ever done at your shows?
Somebody once appeared to impersonate a seal and slid along on her belly from the audience onto the stage during a performance. Security had to remove her! I’ve also been followed from the back of the theatre right onto the stage, which I was totally unaware about until it was drawn to my attention.

What’s the scariest thing about being a male stripper?
Being mobbed by a thousand women? (Laughs) It’s not really scary but as I trained in ballet, tap, musical theatre and stuff like that, to then be looked upon as an object for taking your clothes off was a bit different. But when I got into the show, I realized it was more than that.

Do you enjoy being the object of women’s desire?
I don’t really see myself as an object of desire, it’s more the show that is the object of women’s desire. But if some people do say that they like and appreciate me, then that’s always a nice feeling!

Do you ever feel disrespected?
Yes, on occasion. A very small number of people that watch the show can be a bit invasive. Sometimes they seem like they aren’t aware of their surrounding and that it’s actually a performance in a theatre.

What’s your relationship status?
I’m seeing someone. I’ve been with the same person since I started with the Dreamboys so it’s hard to judge whether the job has made me any more successful, as I haven’t needed to be!

Has anything about your job changed the way you approach sex off-stage?
I guess so — now I have more of an appreciation for tease and seduction and how this all adds to the build up to sex. My girlfriend also loves it when I bust out the Dreamboys dance moves; she encourages me to get up and dance when we’re out in the club together.
