The sex you and your hubs had on your last real vacation was probably a whole lot more fun than the regular, everyday sex you have at home, right? Maybe it had to do with the novel setting, the lack of responsibilities, or the fact that you started mainlining piña coladas the moment you landed.
Take heart—even if you and your honey can’t take a weeklong sojourn in the Cayman Islands, it is possible to recapture that vacation sex feeling right in your own home. Follow these tips for a fun, carefree encounter (minus the expensive plane ticket and the jet lag). Do it in a different room.
What makes hotel sex so hot? Aside from the fact that your neighbors in the next room might hear you, it’s most likely because doing it in a different venue adds a strong dose of variety to your sex life.
“Any time couples try sex in a new place, there’s an adventure element to it,” says Yvonne K. Fulbright, PhD, author of Sultry Sex Talk to Seduce Your Lover. “Focus on what’s fun about the situation, as this will make the execution easier and have you feeling like you’ve been transported to another place for lovemaking.”
Provide him with some “turndown service” tonight and you might be pleasantly surprised by the results.
To grandmother’s house we go…
Not you, the kids! Remember, a kid-free zone means more time and privacy to explore erogenous zones.
“Take advantage of opportunities to get the kids out of the house so that you can have more privacy,” says Fulbright. “Being able to let go of any concerns of interruption or being overheard can allow you to tap into your sexual self in a way you haven’t since before becoming a parent, unleashing an erotic energy that you’ve likely missed.” No relatives nearby? Consider trading off with a fellow parent friend.
Try the Swedish way.
A massage, whether it’s Swedish, hot stone, or deep tissue, will get you both relaxed and ready for even more intimate touches.
“Pampering yourself gets you in the ‘I deserve this’ mind frame, which can have you owning your sexual desires,” says Fulbright. “A massage on your staycation can offer so many benefits to you as lovers and as a couple.”
Try taking turns playing masseuse, or let the professionals do it—in-home massages provided by companies like Zeel are a surefire aphrodisiac.
Set the scene.
Part of what makes vacation feel so sexy is the ambiance. A few simple things like making some tropical drinks and food to set the mood and adjusting the lighting with some scented candles can put you both in the mood for love.
“Lovers are flattered at such seduction attempts,” says Fulbright. “In the very least, there’s the recognition of trying to get in the mood and connect erotically. It can have a couple feeling jovial and willing to forget that the rest of the world exists.”
Walk around in your bathing suits—or in the buff.
One reason sex on vacation feels so effortless is the fact that we tend to go around without a lot of clothing on.
“Shedding inhibitions can have you feeling like new lovers again, willing to be daring and indifferent to any restrictions society wants to put on your body orsex life,” says Fulbright. “Seeing each other, and feeling your body in its natural form, can also get you feeling randy.”
Slather on the suntan oil.
Even though you’re not really on a tropical island, you can still enjoy the pleasure of touching every part of each other’s bodies—in the name of SPF, of course.
“This is a nice way to reconnect with each other and rediscover your bodies in a sensual way,” says Fulbright. “The suntan oil allows you to glide over each other’s forms in a luxurious way as well.”
Get on island time.
The wonderful thing about vacation is that you have all the time in the world. Even if you’re home, make it a point to spend more time on foreplay.
“When people are on vacation, they tend to lose themselves in pleasurable activities,” says Fulbright. “Don’t put a cap on how much time you’ll spend seducing each other. This will help to maximize arousal.”
Get your hearts racing.
Doing an exhilarating activity together like you would on vacation—whether it be zip-lining, riding mopeds, or just exploring a new neighborhood—can add elements of surprise and danger to even the most sweet-yet-staid marriage.
“When an activity gets your heart pumping, it can trigger a lot of the same responses that your body goes through during sexual arousal,” says Fulbright. “So doing something exciting can get your body in a sexy state, which can help get you in a sexy frame of mind.”
