Before rekindling his relationship with Katy Perry, Orlando Bloom says he didn’t have sex for six months. The actor, 43, shared the details of his celibacy in a recent interview with The Sunday Times.
The Hollywood heartthrob decided to keep it in his pants for half a year after his surfer friend, Laird Williams, suggested the idea. Bloom had apparently confessed to Williams that he “wasn’t happy”—and in response, Williams advised: “If you want to be serious about a relationship, go celibate for a few months and figure it out.”
Bloom had previously been struggling maintaining both friendships and intimate relationships with women. After all, he is Orlando Bloom, one of the most notoriously handsome actors in all of Hollywood. Odds are women were throwing themselves at him left and right.
“Wherever I went there was a bit of [frisson]. And I loved women,” he told The Times.
The Lord of the Rings star continued, “It takes away the idea of going to a party and thinking, ‘Who am I going to meet?’ I was suddenly, like, ‘Oh, I can have a relationship with a woman that is just friends.’”
Bloom initially planned to remain celibate for only three months, but decided to double his little experiment when he realized that he was “enjoying the way I was relating to women, and to the feminine within myself.” In that half-year, he didn’t even masturbate or look at porn.
“It was insane,” the Pirates of the Caribbean star added. “I don’t think it’s healthy. I don’t think it was advisable. You have to keep it moving down there.”
While it’s unclear exactly how active Bloom’s sex life is currently with his fiancée Katy Perry, it’s safe to say they’re having sex. After all, Perry is pregnant. The couple got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2019. He told The Times that they plan to wed “very soon,” but there’s been a delay due to Coronavirus.
