From laughing stock, to one-half of Britain’s most famous couple, and back to laughing stock again — Peter Andre’s choice of wife has made, what few fans he had, recoil in horror at just how horribly wrong it can go. Poor Pete, it wasn’t his fault he chose the wrong woman, but that’s not to say that we can’t learn from his mountain of mistakes.
Meet in a real situation
What Pete did: Pete met man-eating monster Jordan — now known as Katie Price — in the jungle on reality show, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. In reality, there was nothing realistic about how they met — spending 24-hours a day together surrounded by cameras. By meeting in such an unlikely situation, the harsh reality was that they’d crumble when confronted with everyday life, including prolonged periods of time apart, and boring daily tasks that don’t involve eating grubs or swimming in crocodile-infested waters.
What to learn: Unlike Pete, make sure you meet your girlfriend in a real-life situation — the more real, in fact, the better, because after the honeymoon period has faded all you’re left with is stone cold reality. If you can’t face that, you probably won’t last – which is why Pete and Katie’s relationship broke down seemingly from the moment they stepped out of the jungle. Remember, if the beginning of your relationship started pretty ordinary, then when your relationship moves into the realm of routine it won’t be such a shock – and you’re less likely to split as a result.
Bide your time
What Pete did: Instead of enjoying a year or so with his new love outside of the jungle, Pete rushed into things and got hitched to Katie way too soon. He didn’t know everything about her — even though the rest of the world did — so when he was confronted with her quirks, flaws and Jordan persona it was already too late. He was trapped.
What to learn: Time may feel like it’s of the essence when you’re falling in love, but it’s not. Don’t rush into something stupid like moving into together, an engagement; or worse, a child. You may feel like you know everything about someone within the first few intense weeks, but you don’t. Everyone has skeletons in their closet and a true personality they suppress when they’re trying to impress, and you don’t want any nasty surprises when you’re bound to the woman for life.
Learn from Pete – trust your instincts and maintain your dignity…
