Online dating can be tough, especially when you’re not seeing the results you want.
How do you start a conversation? Is there a ‘right’ and a ‘wrong’ thing to say when you’re approaching someone you like the look of?
One man who was frustrated that he wasn’t getting any messages from ladies on Tinder took a creative approach to find a solution to his dating woes – by dressing up as a woman himself.
Sy Thomas posted a video on his YouTube channel showing his transformation into ‘Simone’.
Why did he do it? He said: “I am a single man growing increasingly frustrated with online dating.
“It got me thinking… what if I was a woman? Maybe I’d learn techniques from the men who are trying to woo me.”
Sy was amazed by the sheer number of messages he received as Simone, scrolling through them while holding his phone up to show the camera exactly how many he had in his inbox.
While most simply said ‘Hello’, ‘Hi’ or sent a monkey face emoji, he did receive some pretty weird chat-up lines.
One Tinder user, he claims, sent Simone a message that said: “Do you like Harry Potter? If so you should open up your Chamber of Secrets and let my Basilisk Slytherin.”
Some tried to take a more traditional approach, with one admirer telling him: “Your eyes are amazing. Nice to meet you.”
Well, at least he was being a gentleman about it.
“I was inundated with messages – it turns out I’m very popular as a woman. But what have I learnt for my own dating experience online?
“A lot of these opening messages you would never say that to someone in a bar. The best messages were the ones that were genuine and nice, and those were the ones that hit home.
“I think that’s what I’m going to be more like when I’m doing online dating. So yeah, I’m going to go back to what it was before – just a guy on all the dating apps not getting many messages.”
If he was hoping to learn a great lesson about chatting up women, he’s probably disappointed by the results of his experiment.
