I don’t know what to do because I can’t stop thinking about her and every time another guy flirts with her I get very defensive, even though we’re not dating
I’m in love with this girl who I’ve known for over a year. She had a baby a month ago and the father left her (like a coward would).
I have been talking to her a lot recently, mainly via Facebook and other social media, and have very strong feelings for her.
I’m not sure she wants to have a relationship at the moment, besides friendship, though.
I don’t know what to do because I can’t stop thinking about her and every time another guy flirts with her I get very defensive, even though we’re not dating. Please help.
You’re being supportive and a good friend to her at the moment which is great.
But you’re right – she is probably wary of jumping into another relationship right now after what she’s just been through.
She’s probably not ready to trust someone again after being so let down.
As much as you really like her you need to take it slowly.
It’s great that the baby hasn’t put you off, but you do have to ask yourself honestly if you’re ready to be a stepdad as well as a boyfriend.
Her protective motherly instincts will be in overdrive right now and she will also be wary of letting men into her life who might not hang around.
Having said that, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with flirting a little bit.
Maybe you can joke that you get a bit jealous when other blokes flirt with her. Drop little hints so she knows you like her, but don’t scare her off.
And maybe suggest days out like a walk in the park so she can take the baby, rather than going for a drink, which is more like a date.
Just be prepared that she might see you only as a friend.
