We know everyone’s all about NFL talk at the minute but generally speaking, our football, as sports go, is near perfect, right? But is there anything in the world, we hear you ask, that would make it even better? Well, as luck would have it, there is…
Meet Carmella Rose – the hottest thing to happen to football, well, at least until Qatar 2022. The 18-year-old Californian was star player at her high school varsity team winning medals and state trophies. But rather than twinkle-toeing into a career in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) – America’s equivalent to the Women’s Premier League – she chose to put another of her extraordinary talents to use and became a pro-model.
FHM: Hi Carmella. How’s it going?
Carmella: Pretty good, thank you. Sorry it’s been so hard to track me down. I’ve been unbelievably busy over the past week. I’ve been shooting in Malibu.
We heard you’re a pretty decent footballer?
No, but I’m pretty good at soccer!
Erm, yes, ‘soccer’…
Ha-ha, I’m joking with you, man. You Brits are so gullible. Of course I know you guys call it football.
How good are you at ‘soccer’ then?
Well, I was captain of my high school varsity team and played for three years with a club called AYSO. We were pretty good. We won a bunch of regional medals and trophies. My coach told me I should try and go pro but I always wanted to be a model and I was starting to get some great modelling jobs so the decision was kind of made for me.
What sort of a player are you?
Well, I don’t get to play much these days because I’m so busy with modelling. But I was an attacking midfielder. I always wanted to make the perfect pass and was just as happy setting up a goal as I was scoring one.
Were you a tough player?
Absolutely. I was really aggressive – you have to be. Girls may not have the physical strength of guys but when push comes to shove, we always shove. You can’t let the opposition dominate you or you’ll never win. Like in life, I guess.
Quite right. So you were a kind of Paul Scholes figure, then?
Who is Paul Scholes?
Never mind. Now, put something to rest for us once and for all: what is it really like in the girls’ changing room after a hard game of soccerball?
Put it this way… Whatever you’re dreaming is probably pretty true.
So it really is a bunch of girls all dancing around in their underwear and having soapy showers together?
Yeah, that’s about right. Still, I think it’s best for me not to say too much – I’d rather keep the mystery alive.
Who’s your favourite team?
Well, I live in LA so it would probably have to be the LA Galaxy. But I don’t get time to go to games.
Alright, so what do you do to relax?
I love nothing more than to curl up on the sofa with a pizza and a movie. I love any film with Adam Sandler in it. I love him. Billy Madison has to be my favourite film of all time. If you love stupid movies then you’ll love that film.
Do you get to go out much?
I love to go out and party when I can. I went to Electric Daisy Carnival a few weeks back and danced and danced and danced. It was so much fun.
So dance music’s your thing then?
I like dance music at a festival, but I’m a classic rock chick at heart. I love The Rolling Stones more than any other band. They still rock. A young Mick Jagger has got to be my ideal man. Sing me Jumpin’ Jack Flash and I’m yours.
So all a guy needs do to woo you is have a face transplant to look like Mick Jagger and learn to sing. Is there a less painful way to your heart?
Simple. Just take a picnic and wine to the beach, build a bonfire and I’m putty in your hands. I adore the beach. Especially for a date. And when you’ve eaten the food and had a little to drink, you can go in the water and loosen up with a bit of skinny dipping; that’s always fun.
