I’m about to start my last year of school before I head off to university next year. I feel incredibly lonely because all my friends have already left sixth form and I don’t know what to do with myself.
I’ve tried to make more friends, but no one wants anything to do with me. What’s wrong with me?
Why do I feel like a piece of rubbish who no one cares about?
Life is an ever-changing thing and coming to the last year at school and moving on to uni is a big life change and it does involve leaving some friends you had and meeting new people.
But there is nothing wrong with you. We go through these upheavals lots of times as circumstances change and the people in your life change because you take different paths.
Maybe you won’t make tons of friends in your last year at school, but when you get to uni, you will.
My advice is to focus on your school work, which is the thing that will get you into university so you can start a new chapter of your life.
And you’ll be starting with loads of other new people who won’t know anyone either and will feel exactly the same as you do.
Transition is hard and scary sometimes, but it’s a natural part of moving on with life. It’s a little bit daunting, but very exciting, too.
