Whether you share a bedroom wall with your kids, you’re visiting your in-laws, or you’re just the strong, silent type, there are so many reasons quiet sex can be a must. But don’t think of it as a restriction! Quite the contrary, silent sex can really get things smoldering between your sheets.
Being silent compels you to get in sync with your partner through eye contact and encouragement to be quiet, says New York City sex therapist, Ian Kerner, Ph.D., author of She Comes First. Silent sex can bring an intense sense of love making and also a lot of fun and adrenaline in your mutual efforts to go unheard.
How to do it: Prop your boo up with some pillows and his legs outstretched. Then, lower yourself onto him, keeping your feet flat on the bed (or floor, or whatever). Here, you’re able to control the rhythm by pressing up through the balls of your feet.
Why it works: With this move, there’s less thrusting, more bobbing up and down, plus lots of eye contact so you can concentrate on keeping things quiet, says Kerner.
Why it works: Grinding so close to each other with minimal thrusting isn’t loud at all, says Kerner. Also, this one is prime if mouth-covering becomes necessary (bow chika wow wow).
How to do it: Lie back while he’s on top of you. Lift or prop up a leg for easier access.
Why it works: Like reverse missionary, this one is great for the shhh factor.
How to do it: While in the missionary position, roll over to your sides. Use your arms to support your upper bodies.
Why it works: This one works because it encourages slow thrusts. Plus, your faces will be so close that you’ll see every reaction up-close, no noise necessary. (Help things go a little smoother with this organic lube from the Women’s Health Boutique.)
How to do it: Have him kneel on his knees as you squat on top of him. Use his shoulders for balance.
Why it works: No intense thrusting, no problem, says Kerner. This is an awesome position to whisper in your partner’s ear. He’ll hear you, but nobody else will.
How to do it: While he’s sitting down, you sit in his lap, facing him.
Why it works: From here, the friction should feel amazing while causing minimal noise, says Kerner. And if your guy needs to let out a grunt or two, he can muffle it in your chest.
How to do it: He sits cross-legged, then you sit on his lap, facing him. Next, wrap your legs around his back, pull each other closer, and rock back and forth.
Why it works: With your legs and arms wrapped around one another, you can look each other in the eye as you climax, says Kerner. Despite the silence, you’ll know exactly how much he’s enjoying it.
